In 1938, Andre Breton and Jacqueline Lambda visited Trotsky, who was living in exile in Mexico City. Also present but not in the photos was Trotsky’s wife Natalia Sedova and Freda Kahlo. When not picnicking, Trotsky worked with Rivera, Breton, and Lambda to write a Manifesto for an Independent Revolutionary Art, which lead to the creation of the short-lived  International Federation of Independent Revolutionary Art (Lambda gets no credit for this.)

By 1939, the picnicking was over. Trotsky and Rivera had a falling out. Breton and Lambda were in Paris. Andi In 1940, Trotsky was successfully assassinated on Stalin’s orders.
